May 28th 2012

Hello everyone! This week was a great week! We are doing really well in our new area...lots of new doors to knock on and people to teach. We have two baptisms marked already for this coming Saturday! The ward here is great...and everyone is so happy to have elders in the ward. Yesterday, they had us bear our testimonies and everyone was really happy to have us there.

On Thursday, Elder Stanley G Ellis of the Seventy of the Church came to our mission conference. It was really cool! One of the highlights of my mission so far! He talked a lot about prayer and faith. He also gave us suggestions on how to receive personal revelation and how to follow the promptings of the spirit. It was really cool cause the next day, we were teaching a lesson and the guy said he just couldnt believe that Jesus Christ appeared in the Americas because it doesnt say that he did in the Bible. The thought just popped into my head to ask him "How do you know that Jesus even appeared in Jerusalem?". I just kind of blurted it out. He answered "Because I read the Bible." Then I bore a powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon and told him he has to exert his faith and read it to know that Jesus Christ appeared in the Americas. Without reading it, he wouldnt know it, just like he wouldnt know that Christ really was in Jerusalem without reading it in the Bible.

This week, there was a group of new missionaries that arrived and Pres. didnt have enough trainers, so for this week Ive been training a new missionary from Brazil. He will be staying just until wednesday and then I will be staying with my regular companion, Elder Chandler from Elk Grove, California.

I cant believe how much better Ive gotten with the language! I keep looking back on how much I struggled and how discouraged I was and Im like, Spencer, why did you feel like that?? Look at how well you are doing now! It is really awesome to be able to speak a different language :)

Mom, I got the package with the picture book in it and it is PERFECT! Fits perfectly in my bag and had a lot of pics I didnt already have with me! Thanks for the Easter candy too! Cadbury eggs are AWESOME!

Well, that is about all for this week....the pictures I sent are from the conference with the Seventy, me eating a grilled cheese sandwich (yes, it is true), and a poster for the U2 360 tour I found walking around in the city!!!

Love you! Talk to you next week!

May 21st 2012

Hello family! how are things going back home in Utah? I hope all is
well. I got transferred, finally, after spending a month and a half
with the mission president and having fun in the hospital (not). By
the way, I decided since I am all better now, to send the picture of
my leg when it was at it's worst. Enjoy!

I am in a new area called Novo Mundo...my companion and I are opening
up the area, so it is kinda difficult because we have no investigators
here and we dont know where any of the members live. So our days are
spent just knocking on doors and talking to people. The people here
are really receptive and friendly. We found two people to bring to
Church with us yesterday. The ward here is really awesome, they havent
had elders in the ward for over a year and they were all so excited to
have us in their ward.

We also have a new house which is great, because we have all new
stuff...a new fridge, new washing machine, and new beds...but having a
new house also means we dont have much of anything else...not much
food, no ironing board, stuff like that.

This week a member of the Seventy is coming to visit us, so on
Thursday we are having a mission conference. It will be great, I am
excited for it!

Anyway, that is about all the news I have for this week. Hope all is
going well. I know that school is about wrapping up! Hope you have all
had a good year at school hahaha :)

Love you!

April 30th 2012

Hey everyone! Elder Eastwood here in the mission office in Goiânia! Dont have much news this week cause Im still having problems with my leg. It is really lame. Makes me wonder why this had to happen to me right now! I felt like I was doing so well and then all of a sudden, I can't work...I stayed at the mission president's house until Wednesday, but then he had to travel to another part of the mission, so I went to stay in the house of the mission secretaries for the rest of the week, because they work in the mission office all day until 6:00 and then go out and proselyte. One of the elders took me to the doctor last week but they still are not completely sure what is going on with my leg. They think it is a problem with my blood or something....I have to get an ultrasound on my leg this week....But no biggy! :)

I FINALLY got the second package you sent Mom! With the socks and the TIDE pens and the awesome NYC journal and all the good candy! That was so nice of you guys!!! I also got the letter you sent on the 16 or 17...Dad, what songs are available to download from the U22 CD??

Well....that is about it....haha, I know I am boring right now and dont have any pictures...but hopefully this week I will be able to get out and work. Pres. Prieto said that maybe he will call me as a secretary so that I can still do work without having to walk all day in the hot sun and make my leg worse!

Thanks for all your prayers in my behalf!

love,
